International meeting on the Jurassic/Cretaceous boundary

From 7-th till 13-th of September, 2015 in Samara (Russia) there was an International scientific conference devoted to the problem of Jurassic/Cretaceous boundary. The specialists from Moscow, St-Petersburg, Saratov, Novosibirsk and other regions of Russia, including guests from Kazakhstan and Norway took part in the conference. The conference consisted of the listening of scientific reports, field study of the section, situated near Valy villages (Samarskaya Luka), Kashpir (Syzran region), Marievka (Uliyanovsk region), and there were also city tours and excursions to “Jigulevskiy” reserve.

Samara region was chosen as a place of meeting for the scientists because it is situated in the Middle Volga region, in the territory of Samara and Ulyanovsk region, in the place of J-K boundary level in Russian plate. The results of complex study must promote the choice of the key event that could be conclusive for J-K boundary that is still the only boundary with no section and no point of the global boundary stratotype (GSSP).
